There are so many questions I get asked when I tell people that I’m going on The World Race. My favorite one to answer is “What are you most excited for?” Now there are a few different things that come to mind right away such as adventure, seeing new cultures, and being stretched by God. But the thing I’m most excited for is community – doing life with my squad.

Some of us racers came a day early to training camp to do a Storyteller Workshop. This was the first time I was able to meet several of my squad mates in person after months of messaging. I was a little nervous to meet them at the airport but once we all got talking the nerves faded away.

Before our evening session we all took our packs and went to set up camp. It was cool to watch as tents of all different colors were set up and people were laughing and helping each other out. It gave me a wonderful picture into what community looks like. We are all here for the same reason: to serve God and make Him known. It’s amazing how having that in common can instantly make people feel like family.

Tonight, the rest of our squad will arrive and training camp will officially begin. The next ten days will be filled with team building, challenges, worship, and God. We will get to see God moving in the lives of fellow racers as we learn how to live in authentic community with each other. I know it will be uncomfortable at times, but I am ready to embrace the struggle and let God push me out of my comfort zone. So, to answer the question, I am excited to get to know who my squad mates are, what they are passionate about, and how God is working in their lives. Bring on community and bring on The World Race!
