If you have been keeping up with my social media posts, you may have noticed that me and one of my squad mates are stuck in Germany. We were on our way from Guatemala to Romania, and we had a layover in Frankfurt, Germany. Here is a short glimpse into what has been going on so you have some context into our (mis)adventure.

Squad mate leaves purse with passport on plane

Not being allowed to go get it and being directed to lost and found

Short layover and closed help desk meant missing the connecting flight while the squad continued on to Romania

We got directed all over the airport to figure out lost and found, finally got connected with airport police.

Lost and found closed

Wifi was only free for an hour when it was supposed to be free 24/7 so we had to pay for it to stay in contact with our people

No purse

Slept in the airport with the mice running around in the terminals and weird German announcement on repeat for man checking sound system at midnight

Had to get emergency travel documents in order to leave the airport and go to the US consulate here in Frankfurt

Closed because of American holiday and have to wait until Monday

Escaped airport to run around Frankfurt for 2 hours

Gave homeless man my travel blanket

Came back to airport. Still no purse.

Located both of our big packs. Thank goodness they weren’t in Romania with the squad!

Booked hotel. Was not in the part of town we expected.

Uber was expensive. Taxis were more expensive. Remembered they use Bolt here, much cheaper.

Got a room with two comfy beds and hot shower.

Ate delicious local German food. Obsessed. We are officially Germans. We live here now.

Found a potential connection here with a local church. Pray we find free or cheap lodging for the night or next few nights.

Still no purse.

In all seriousness, this has been challenging. Since she wasn’t able to make the flight, one of us squad leaders had to stay back with her. So here I am! We both expected to get her purse back quickly and fly out later that day. Now we are on day 3 here in Frankfurt and all we can do is wait. We are waiting for either lost and found to notify us that her purse has been found, or for the US consulate to open on Monday and issue her a new passport. We both wish we’d pushed harder to get back on the plane, but hindsight is 20/20. People from all over have told us they are praying, and many have helped financially so we can pay for lodging and food while we are stuck. Thank you so much for the prayers and generosity! We are both blown away by God’s provision.

While we are here, we are seeing what God has for us. We have been praying a lot, following His leading, and seeking out opportunities to love those around us. We are both eager to get to Romania and join our squad in Craiova. At least we can laugh at the situation, and we are catching glimpses of God’s hand everywhere. This has been a wild adventure and we aren’t finished yet. Please pray for her bag to get dropped off at the Lost and Found desk, pray for the flight change fee to be waived, and pray for us to open to what God wants us to do in the meantime.

If you have any connections in Frankfurt Germany, please pass them on. We are open to any and all suggestions. You can reach me through email at alwoody3@yahoo,com or through WhatsApp +15074405704. If you also feel led to help financially, my Venmo is @alaynawood. We don’t know what our total financial needs will be yet, but we will post further details as they come.
