It’s day #75624931 of quarantine and there seems to be no signs of intelligent life, or toilet paper. The house I’m in has other inhabitants, but the only evidence of them is the never ending pile of dishes in the sink, and the occasional noise coming from each of their “lairs.” The little queen of this land, Sophia, rules with high pitched squeals and a constant demand for snacks. We denied her one time, and it was bad enough that we haven’t dared step out of line since. To get back in her good graces we set up a pool in her honor and let her dump water everywhere. Peace has again filled the Wood land.

Basically, this is an introvert’s dream. You’re telling me I have to stay home and avoid outside contact with people while being able to wear sweatpants and t-shirts everyday? Ok, cool. If only my extroverted friends felt the same. This is not an opportunity to use every avenue of social media to reach out to your introverted friends. We are here and we are fine. Find other extroverts to talk to. There’s nothing new to share. I’ve worn down a path to the fridge. That’s it. I don’t need to see the new meme you found. I found it three days ago…

Also, why do people insist on video chats? What’s wrong with regular phone calls? Or texts for that matter? Yes, it’s nice to see your face and all, but I’ve most likely spent my last few days pushing the limits on how long I can wear the same outfit and go without a shower. What even is laundry?! Between online church and live streamed concerts I haven’t had to put on nice clothes in a wonderfully long time. (Except that one time I put normal clothes on to go to the living room.)

I will admit to reaching my introvert limits though. The delivery man brought a package the other day and I got so excited standing inside the door waiting for him to drop it on the porch. I have a new understanding for why dogs bark and get all worked up when someone comes to the door. Walks have also become quite a serious event in the evenings. I’m not sure who gets more excited, me or the dogs.

We’ve been out here for so long, but we continue to wait on Headquarters for the “all clear”, and the jury is still out regarding details to going back on the Race. Until then, we will avoid the radicals who are drinking bleach or the stuff used to treat water for goldfish. Some people… But don’t lose hope. There is still so much to be thankful for, like a fresh load of groceries delivered by someone else. In all seriousness though, God is still in control, and we won’t be in this season forever. Keep your head up, enjoy the video calls, and maybe put on a new pair of pants. You never know who you might encounter on your way to the fridge for the 96th time today.

  1. We’ve been Quarantine so long I made friends with a volleyball named Wilson… You have Sophie, we have Wyatt and he is not an introvert. He also will not go without food for very long.

  2. SO TRUE!! Love the way you put this into words. I do see some light at the end of the tunnel.
But for now, we all get to practice that thing called “PATIENCE.”

  3. Oh my. I was torn between laughing and being offended haha. No, you must endure my video chats once a blue moon!
Love you girl! Keep lighting up the world with your wonderful writing.
